Stilwell’s Stryder Pritchett Athlete Spotlight

STRYDER PRITCHETT

Stilwell

Ever since he was four years old, Stryder Pritchett has been in love with the game of baseball.

“The name of my first team was the Stilwell Bombers,” recalled the 2024 junior who will celebrate his 18th birthday in February. “We lived up to our team name by winning the state championship in coach-pitch.”

Now, with just one look, it’s easy to see that Stryder has “grown up” as the 6-3, 230 pound right-handed pitcher for coach Derek Kennedy’s squad will more than likely step to the mound as the starting pitcher for the Indians in their season opener.

“Stryder’s baseball skills allow us to play him in several positions,” said the Indians skipper. “When he’s not pitching, he can play catcher as well as third or first base.”

Always ready to play anywhere in the lineup that his coach asks, “Tank”, as he called by his closest friends and family, prefers to be on the mound.

“I want to have the ball in my hand from the very first pitch,” said Stryder. “I like to have the ability to control the pace of the game.”

Mixing a 5-pitch rotation, Stryder didn’t hesitate when asked what pitch he’ll throw in a pressure situation.

“With the game on the line, I thrive in being the game changer; and without hesitation I’m going to throw a 12-6 curve for a strikeout to win the game.”

Confident and well rounded are a couple of traits Stryder chose in a self-description but emphasized that being selfless iswhat’s most important.

“I try see the good in everyone, in everything I do and work hard to help others succeed. That’s what it takes to create team unity,” Stryder said with a voice of confidence.

Still wearing the same jersey number since first playing the game, Stryder takes added his pride in wearing the Indians’ number-4 jersey, the same jersey worn by his step-dad.

“It’s cool that I get to wear the same number that he (Joe Fletcher) wore when he played for Stilwell. He’s been my biggest inspiration by showing me the importance of doing everything with 110% effort, to strive to improve everyday and leave with no regrets.”

And what would Stryder Pritchett choose for the “champions menu” at season’s end?

“I’m going to ask coach to stop the bus and let’s all enjoy a New York strip steak,” he said with expectations of anotherwinning baseball season at Stilwell. “I’ll take mine rare with a baked potato.”
